The ERDT PhD Foreign Scholarship is given to faculty members of ERDT Consortium who wish to pursue PhD studies in any engineering field in a recognized university or institution abroad.


The scholarship period is maximum of three (3) years. In cases that the program of study is more than three (3) years, the scholarship period for the ERDT PhD Foreign Scholarship will depend on the duration of the program as certified by the university abroad.



The applicant who wishes to apply must meet all of the following:


  • Be a Filipino citizen who is not more than forty-five (45) years old at the time of application to the scholarship;
  • Must not have a doctoral degree in engineering or related fields;
  • Must be currently a full time faculty member of any ERDT Consortium University;
  • Has served the College/School of Engineering of the ERDT Consortium University for at least one (1) year;
  • Must be occupying a faculty item (not as a substitute to a faculty member on leave or occupying an item which is charged to savings of the unit/department/institute he/she belongs to); and
  • Must be a permanent or tenured faculty or considered for permanency or tenure by unit/department/institute where he/she belongs to.


The applicant must submit the following:


  1. Letter of application addressed to the ERDT Project Leader;
  2. Accomplished Application Form;
  3. Letter of acceptance/admission to the graduate program from the university abroad;
  4. Letter from foreign adviser that he/she is willing to advise the applicant as an ERDT PhD scholar;
  5. Proposed detailed research plan including GANTT chart;
  6. Line Item Budget (LIB) describing items to support his/her study such as pre-travel allowance, one (1) roundtrip economy airfare, relocation allowance, living allowance, tuition and other school fees, book allowance, dissertation grant, dissemination grant, and health and travel insurance;
  7. Curriculum Vitae;
  8. Certification of Approval of Permanent Appointment as Faculty. In case that the faculty is not yet permanent, a certification from the department chair/institute director/program coordinator that the applicant is being considered for tenure; and
  9. 9.      Certification from the department chair/institute director/program coordinator that the engineering field is one of the R&D thrusts of the department/ institute/program.


The application shall be evaluated based on merit by the FSSC (or equivalent body). The FSSC (or equivalent body) shall recommend the approval (or disapproval) of the application to the Project Leader. For disapproved application, the Project Leader shall notify the applicant. For initially approved applications, the Project Leader shall endorse the application to the Program Leader. The Program Leader shall then endorse the application to DOST-SEI for further review and endorsement to the DOST Secretary for final approval.

If approved, the ERDT PhD Foreign Scholar must accomplish the Scholarship Agreement and Supplemental Agreement with his/her Co-maker.

In addition, the scholar must file and secure an official study leave with his/her home university and secure a temporary travel clearance to ERDT office to be endorsed to DOST-SEI.
