Roadshow 2023
ERDT Roadshow in Davao City
Nineteen representatives from 11 universities attended the ERDT roadshow on July 21, 2023 at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Davao City. This roadshow is conducted by convening university representatives to discuss faculty development programs and scholarships, and to promote post-graduate programs the consortium universities are offering, which could foster more collaboration in the Mindanao region.
Dr. Maria Antonia Tanchuling, ERDT Program Leader, introduced ERDT and explained its goals and objectives. Aside from its programs, Dr. Tanchuling explained the potential avenues for collaboration between the ERDT and the institutions the attendees are representing, like external linkages, joint research projects, and exposure to world-class opportunities. In the long run, she emphasized that the ERDT envisions that more universities would start up new graduate degree programs with its capable and knowledgeable faculty after they have finished their own postgraduate programs.
Afterwards, Prof. Rowel Atienza presented Artificial Intelligence, the new Master’s Program of the College of Engineering at UP Diliman. The Project Leaders of the consortium universities also presented the graduate programs their institutions are offering.
During the open forum, several attendees expressed interest in pursuing higher studies or sending some of their faculty members to enroll in postgraduate programs and inquired about the qualifications for Master’s and Phd scholarships. Dr. Tanchuling also gave Chancellor Renato Arazo, an alumnus scholar of the ERDT who now leads the University of Science and Technology of the Philippines - Claveria, to share his experience in being a scholar and the opportunities that opened up for him because of this privilege. Chancellor Arazo shared that, aside from the scholarship and other entitlements provided by ERDT, he also puts premium on the training opportunities offered by ERDT to its scholars, which he re-echoes to his colleagues, students, and advisees even after he finished his postgraduate studies.
