ERDT workshop on High Performance Computing Fundamentals
ERDT workshop on High Performance Computing Fundamentals
The ERDT UP Diliman conducted its first workshop on High Performance Computing Fundamentals on July 21, 2023 at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Davao City. Twenty one participants, who are part of the IT teams of Ateneo de Manila University, Central Luzon State University, De La Salle University, Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology, UP Los Banos, University of San Carlos, Mindanao State University Naawan, and UP Mindanao, attended the workshop.
This workshop was facilitated by Mr. John Robert Mendoza, ERDT Senior HPC Consultant, together with five junior trainers from ERDT–Patrick Zamora, Pio Mijares, Dante Dumduma, Marlo Evangelista, Colline Estrada, and Benjamin Dag.
The workshop focused on executing interactive workloads with JupyterLab and executing batch workloads in multiple compute nodes using SLURM. In addition, the participants were also taught how to manage HPC cluster users using FreeIPA and to connect to an international WiFi roaming service. The workshop was designed for the participants to experience using the software first-hand and producing basic outputs with the guidance of the trainers.
After the training, several participants expressed interest in using eduroam in their university given the ease of connectivity of users despite being located remotely from the campus. Given the overall satisfaction of the participants, they also expressed interest in attending more advanced HPC training sessions, specifically on setting up, installing, and customizing these softwares in their institutions.
