9thERDT Congress
With the theme, “Engineering the Future through Digital Transformation”, the 9h ERDT Congress was held from September 8 to September 17, 2021. Hundreds of participants attended the virtual sessions on Zoom and watched the livestreams on YouTube.
Dr. Chen-Fu Chien, Dr. William Torres, Mr. Reynaldo Lugtu, Jr., and Ms. Ria Brando talked about the domains of digital transformation during the Plenary Session on September 8, 2021. Dr. Dante Silva moderated and synthesized the session.
Meanwhile, the e-Poster Competition was conducted on September 10, 2021. Thirty-three (33) papers were presented by ERDT scholars and faculty advisers from Central Luzon State University, De La Salle University, Mapúa University, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, University of the Philippines Diliman, University of the Philippines Los Baňos, and University of San Carlos under the five (5) R&D tracks of ERDT, which are: Energy, Environment and Infrastructure, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Manufacturing and Machinery, and Semiconductor, Materials, and Electronics (SME).
Two parallel sessions anchored on the topic, “Opportunities and Challenges in Digital Transformation” were held on September 15, 2021. In Parallel Session A, Dir. Antonio Padre of DICT, Mr. Vince Tempongko of Globe Telecoms, Atty. Roy Ibay of Smart Communications, and Prof. Romel Gomez of the University of Maryland elaborated on a wide array of issues revolving around digital infrastructure. In Parallel Session B, Atty. Alvin Navarro of DICT, Dr. Jamil Paolo Francisco of AIMS, and Mr. Janssen Esguerra of NPC, discussed key points on digital literacy, digital inclusivity, and data privacy.
On September 17, 2021, two (2) parallel sessions on “Sectoral Digital Transformation” were conducted. Dr. Rosemarie Edillon of NEDA, Mr. Greg Camacho of Grab Food Ph, Dr. Arnel Onesimo Uy of DLSU, and Prof. Paulo Noel Paje of UP ITDC shared relevant information as to how they digitized processes in their organizations in Parallel Session C. Meanwhile, Mr. Leonides de Ocampo of McKinsey & Company, Dr. Arnold Lubguban of MSU-IIT, and Engr. Fred Liza of DOST-AMCen talked about the latest technologies in the Production and Manufacturing Sector in Parallel Session D.
The talks highlighted how the pandemic has forced us to adapt a technology-based new normal. Moreover, a common observation among the panelists is that, even in a post-COVID setup, digital transformation is necessary for individuals, institutions, and companies to achieve scalable performance, and for a bionic ecosystem integration to be realized.
